Abu Dhabi (972.45 km2) is an emirate, or principality, of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a country composed of seven emirates. Abu Dhabi is located on an island extending from the Persian Gulf to the central western coast of the UAE and is the largest emirate of the country with a population of 921,000 people in 2013.

The main city of the emirate of Abu Dhabi is also called Abu Dhabi. It is the capital of UAE. It has not always been a tourist destination, but due to improved managerial efforts and an increase in promotions and planning, it has undergone tremendous growth in its tourism sector.
