Travel and Tourism Research Journals

There have been academic or research journals published in the travel and tourism field for nearly 70 years. The pioneering journals, such as the Tourism Review (1946), the Journal of Travel Research (1972), and Annals of Tourism Research (1973), tended to adopt a broad remit. Since the 1990s, however, the main growth has been in journals with an increasingly narrow and more specialized coverage. The number of journals in the field has grown at an exponential rate, more than doubling every decade. Even so, the more prestigious journals tend to be published in the English language, while the editors and editorial boards tend to be drawn from four main English-speaking countries.
