Timor-Leste saw its independence restored and became a country in 2002. With the support of the United Nations (UN) and in cooperation with other countries, Timor-Leste held a progress in economic and social sectors of the country, with the purpose of refining the living conditions of the population as well as to stabilize the restructuring of the political system. With a GDP of $1.6 billion as of 2013, it is still a very small economic power.
