Taipei City, with an estimated population of 2.7 million and land area of about 272 square kilometers, is the largest city in Taiwan and is its capital. It is situated at the northern tip of the island of Taiwan and the Tamsui River flows through it. Taipei is a political, economic, and cultural center of Taiwan and attracts many tourists as a result.

Tourism Development

Inbound visitor arrivals to Taiwan have been increasing dramatically since it fully opened to tourists from mainland China in 2008. Visitor arrivals increased, on average, by around 16% per year between 2009 and 2013.
