Eradication of extreme poverty and hunger is the number-one item on the Millennial Developmental Goals (MDGs) list. Although the target of the poverty reduction MDG has been met because poverty has been reduced by about 50 percent between 1990 and 2010, about 1.2 billion people still suffer from extreme poverty across the globe. The UNDP Regional Project for Overcoming Poverty is a major program of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and is administered by the agency.
