The Republic of Tunisia, located in North Africa, is located by the Mediterranean Sea and bordered by Libya to the east and Algeria to the west and south. After the end of the French protectorate in 1956, and their subsequent independence, President Bourguiba became the “father” of the nation. His years in power were marked by a policy of secularization, social reform, and modernization. For example, he implemented compulsory schooling and the recognition of equal rights between men and women.
