Technology and Poverty Alleviation

Poverty is a global phenomenon affecting growth and development. It has several dimensions, encompassing sociocultural and economic realms. Rapid growth in the field of science and technology has encouraged researchers to experiment by using technology to alleviate poverty. These experiments have been successful in developed countries. The issue of poverty in developing and underdeveloped countries is complex. Addressing poverty in these countries is difficult because causes for poverty are closely intertwined. Illiteracy, poor health, unemployment, and low income are the primary causes for poverty, and unless an integral strategy that considers handling these issues is developed, alleviation of poverty in these countries will be a herculean task. Technology from developed countries cannot be directly transferred, hence there is a need for indigenous technology.
