Serbia and Montenegro

The state union of Serbia and Montenegro, which was established on February 4, 2003, formally ceased to exist in 2006. In a referendum held on May 21, 2006, the population of Montenegro voted for the segregation of the Republic of Montenegro from the union with the Republic of Serbia. On June 3, 2006, Montenegro formally declared independence, and from that date the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Montenegro formally and essentially acted as independent and internationally recognized countries.

Serbia and Montenegro are located in the southeastern part of Europe. The Republic of Serbia includes the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina and the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija.
