Mozambique

Mozambique is located on the southeastern coast of sub-Saharan Africa. It is bordered by South Africa and Swaziland to the south, Zimbabwe to the west, Zambia and Malawi on the northwest, Tanzania to the north, and the island of Madagascar separated by the Mozambique Channel to the east. Mozambique is slightly less than twice the size of the state of California. Portuguese is the official language and is spoken as a first language by approximately 50 percent of the population, according to the Mozambique 2007 Census. The literacy rate is 50.6 percent for the population aged 15 and older.
