One of the principal goals of development policies is to overcome any form of poverty. Yet poverty has grown in size and geographic space. The living wage campaign aims at increasing the income of low-wage workers to enable them to obtain a salary that is better able to meet their basic needs so they can maintain the standard of living in their communities. There is no universally accepted definition of living wage. It is said to include provisions for basic needs over and above biological needs that are covered by the state-defined minimum wages.
