The Institute for the Study of Homelessness and Poverty is located at the Weingart Center for the Homeless in Los Angeles, California. The institute is a nonprofit, comprehensive research and policy organization that studies issues related to both poverty and homelessness and disseminates its information through a Web site and other media. The Weingart Center, established in 1983, is the largest homeless service organization in Los Angeles and seeks to deal with the phenomenon of homelessness in both the city and county of Los Angeles. It was estimated that more than 1 million people in Los Angeles County were homeless in 2010.
