Georgia (U.S. State)

The state of Georgia is located in the southeastern United States, and it is among the states with the highest levels of poverty. In 2014, Georgia was the ninth most-populous state and the 24th largest by land mass. The capital city is Atlanta, and the Atlanta metropolitan area boasts over 6 million residents, making it the ninth largest city in the United States, ahead of Boston and Detroit. The state is approximately 63 percent white, 31 percent African American, 3 percent Asian American, and 0.5 percent Native American, making Georgia the third-highest state in terms of an African American population. Nearly 10 percent of Georgians identify as Hispanic or Latino.
