Georgia (Country)

This Christian country in the Caucasus traces its origins back to the early 4th century, and it was a part of the Soviet Union until independence in 1991. Before it became a part of Russia, Georgia was very isolated and was the center of many wars, but it managed to maintain its independence. However, from the late 18th century, Georgia was absorbed into Russia, and the last part was annexed in 1813. Although this period saw much fighting, the next 100 years for Georgia were peaceful, with the region quiet during the Crimean War and the first part of World War I. However, with the Russian Revolution, Georgia declared its independence, and then was enmeshed in war until it was incorporated into the Soviet Union. ...
