Food First is the name commonly used to refer to the Institute for Food and Development Policy, an organization devoted to the study of hunger and poverty alleviation. Food First was founded in 1975 by Frances Moore Lappé and Joseph Collins as a means to eradicate hunger by eliminating structures and processes that cause hunger, such as poverty, uneven development, the dominant agribusiness form of food production, and racism. Long concerned with the interrelationship between food production, hunger, and poverty, Food First has provided support for domestic and international projects regarding hunger, farming, and sustainable agriculture, and issues numerous policy studies and books on a wide range of related issues.
