Fillmore, Millard (Administration)

Millard Fillmore was born and raised in New York State and eventually would serve as the 13th president of the United States. He was a founding member of the Anti-Masonic Party before later becoming a Whig. He was the last president to not be affiliated with the Democratic or Republican parties and appointed the only Whig Supreme Court Justice in U.S. history. He began his political career as the first member of the United States House of Representatives for the 32nd district of New York before later serving as comptroller for the state of New York. Throughout his career, Fillmore supported strong protectionist legislation.
