Employment Policies Institute

The Employment Policies Institute (EPI) is a nonprofit research organization. Its overarching concern is the study of public policy associated with employment growth, particularly issues of entry-level employment. The institute was founded in 1991, and studies have included welfare reform, minimum wage, heath care, entry-level employment, and mandated benefits. Analyses are supposedly conducted by independent economists, both academic and professional.

The Employment Policies Institute has been likened to a conservative think tank, and the manner in which it operates fiscally is rather unusual. Authentic documentation about funding is difficult to confirm. According to an exposé conducted by the New York Times, it was discovered that no personnel are employed directly by the organization; the only identified name is Michael Saltsman, whose title is “research director.” ...
