Education Equity

Education equity is concerned with a just distribution in education resources, which is directly related to educational access and outcomes. Measures of education equity primarily consider whether and how gaps in educational opportunities and outcomes vary across certain groups and countries. When certain groups are unfairly deprived of education resources available to other groups, educational inequity arises, which causes inequality in educational outcomes among different groups with groups differentiated by class, region, ethnicity, race, religion, language, disability, and gender. Education inequity matters for many reasons. It replicates risk factors and vicious cycles among poor populations, which can lead to greater social costs and less economic productivity.
