Comic Relief

Comic Relief, a large charity group based in the United Kingdom and United States, uses the medium of entertainment to raise funds that are used to support the eradication of poverty and social injustice around the world. The organization focuses on six overarching areas of need: (1) domestic violence, (2) education, (3) HIV/AIDS, (4) malaria, (5) mental health, and (6) youth. Comic Relief funds were used to increase school attendance in sub-Saharan countries by nearly 47 million children between 1999 and 2008, to add over 17,000 youth projects across the United Kingdom since 1985, and to support the development of a lifeline program in the United Kingdom for female and child victims of domestic violence.
