Many college campuses are focusing on teaching civic engagement as a way of preparing students for life after graduation. This dedication to campus-based civic engagement teaches students important life skills and job-worthy character traits and helps to improve the surrounding community.

Campus Compact is a national coalition of colleges and universities dedicated to this public purpose of higher education. This independent charitable organization, based in Boston, Massachusetts, is comprised of institutional member campuses that provide specific mission-focused programs, notably programs aimed at reducing poverty.
