Burkina Faso

Burkina Faso is located in West Africa and is a landlocked country of 17,812,961 people; it is classified as part of the Sahel region in West Africa, along with Mauritania, Mali, Niger, Senegal, and Chad. It is bordered to the northwest by Mali, to the east by Niger, to the southeast by Togo and Benin, to the south by Ghana, and to the southwest by Ivory Coast. Burkina Faso was initially a protectorate of France in 1897, and in 1919 it was made an official colony until 1960.
