Belize

Belize is a country on the eastern coast of Central America, bordered on the north by Mexico, the south and west by Guatemala, and the east by the Caribbean Sea. Belize was a colony known as British Honduras before it attained independence from Great Britain in 1981.

Belize is the only country in Central America in which English is the official language, although Spanish is also commonly spoken. The nation’s population comprises a diverse mix of immigrants including Mestizos (originating from a mixture of Maya natives and Spanish immigrants), Creoles (descended from African slaves), and Garifuna (a mix of West and Central African, Arawak, and Island Carib ancestry).
