The population of Alaska is 735,132 and has increased 3.5 percent since 2010. It is the 47th state (by population) and is the least densely populated state in the United States, as well as one of the most sparsely populated areas in the world. There are approximately 1.2 persons per square mile. However, Alaska is the largest state by area. Alaska is also the 10th-wealthiest state.

The state’s unemployment rate in April 2014 was 6.4 percent. The 2010 U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey (one-year estimates) found that Alaska has one of the lowest poverty rates, as per the official federal poverty line.
