Although the rate of poverty in Wyoming is relatively low at 12.6 percent, it does not mean that all is well, since it is the state with the highest number of people working two or more jobs. This means that they have to work multiple jobs to meet the expenses for food, housing, and health. Wyoming has the dubious distinction of being the state in the nation where women earn the lowest salary, $0.49 for every dollar earned by a man. This gender gap in earnings is most likely due to the fact that the jobs that are taken up by women are low paying, like teaching, nursing, and part-time jobs. Eastern Wyoming suffers from poverty more than the rest of the state.
