World Concern

With the increase in natural disasters ranging from severe drought, high magnitude earthquakes, major flooding (especially in coastal regions), and volcanic eruptions, many individuals are becoming displaced from their homes. This is true whether people are in developed or developing countries. In 2011, Africa, which is already prone to drought conditions, experienced an extensive drought season. When a region experiences severe drought, its vegetation dies, employment opportunities shrink, and economies suffer. Without outside help from aid agencies, such as governmental (such as the United States) and nongovernmental agencies (NGOs) such as the United Nations or Medicins Sans Frontiers, many of these affected regions would not survive.
