Diplomacy

Diplomacy is one of the most important tools in governmental affairs for developing relationships among countries to achieve shared goals. Diplomacy relies on negotiations between two states or among multiple states to minimize conflicts and ensure peace; however, a primary purpose of diplomacy is to advance the agenda of a country’s own interests and to its foreign policy goals.

Diplomacy originated when city-states first emerged in Mesopotamia and advanced in Europe during the 15th century. Philosophers such as Niccolò Machiavelli influenced political thought and governance and suggested the importance of the existence of the state.
