Croatia

Croatia (Republika Hrvatska) is a central and southeastern European country; its capital is Zagreb (first recorded in 1130s; population nearly 800,000 by 2011 census). The country is a unitary parliamentary constitutional republic and consists of 20 counties. Its area is nearly 22,000 square miles and borders the Adriatic Sea along its southeast Dalmatia region; it borders Hungary to the northeast, Serbia to the east, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina to the southeast, and Slovenia to the northwest.

The estimated population of Croatia is 4.2 million people with over 90% ethnic Croats, 4.4% Serbs, and 5.2% others, including Muslims, Italians, and Roma (2013 census); the official language is Croatian.
