Bolivia

The Republic of Bolivia was constituted as a sovereign country when it became independent from Spain in 1825. Located in the central zone of South America, it is surrounded by the countries of Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, Chile, and Peru. Bolivia is landlocked, as it lost its access to the coast in a 19th century war against Chile. The name Bolivia honors Venezuelan political leader Simon Bolivar, known as “The Liberator.” Its capital cities are Sucre and La Paz.

Bolivia’s population is counted as 10.67 million (2013), with an average life expectancy of 67 years.
