World War II

World War II was a seminal point in history, as the world that existed after its end was fundamentally different from the one that had existed before it began. Before the war, the world had a few great empires and multiple centers of power. At the war’s end, the world saw the rise of new nations as the French and British Empires pulled out of Africa and Asia. The creation of organizations, such as the United Nations, and technologies, such as nuclear weapons, have affected the world into the modern day, and a new adversarial relationship dominated world politics, the United States versus the Soviet Union.
