U.S. Naval War College

The U.S. Naval War College is located in Newport, Rhode Island. Founded in 1884, it grew out of a heightened interest in professionalization at the end of the 19th century. In its more than 130-year history, the school has provided postgraduate education in the military profession for officers in all branches of the U.S. military as well as allied nations. It has also served as a planning center for future conflicts and has promoted education in military history and strategic studies. It currently holds accreditation for a master of arts in national security and strategic studies and oversees the Naval War College Press, which publishes monographs in naval history and the scholarly journal The Naval War College Review.
