Peace Education

Peace education includes a wide range of educational policies, practices, and pedagogies that aim to foster in students of all ages the attitudes, knowledge, and skills considered integral to the cultivation of local, national, and international peace. Peace education is typically based on the following two assumptions: first, that the process of education can function as a socializing agent capable of imparting not just knowledge but particular sets of attitudes and values; second, that having undergone the socializing process of peace education, individual students can help work toward the creation of peaceful relations. Advocates of peace education view the practice of peace education as necessary for the establishment and maintenance of international peace.
