Military service and overseas deployment is often a source of pride for service people and their extended families. Although service in the armed forces offers a number of benefits for veterans, actively enrolled service people, and their families, numerous stressors accompany military life that may lead to serious family conflict, including infidelity and divorce.

In times past, the majority of the soldiers deployed overseas were men, but today there is no “typical” military family. Instead, there are numerous iterations of military families, due to growing numbers of enlisted women, single parents, and even families in which both parents are in the armed forces.
