Militarism

At its simplest, militarism refers to maintaining a state’s strong military presence, ideology, and policies, to which all other policies and interests are subordinate. As part of a government ideal, militarism can be understood both as a state ideology and as the preferred method to resolve internal and foreign conflicts. Because it implies the domination of military ideals and presence in government, the military determines the creation of policies and even legislation, as well as the commitment of state and social resources, primarily to supporting militarist interests and the waging of war.

Militarism takes many forms and, as such, is present and prevalent in diverse societies around the world. It can occur across political ideologies and always implies the interference of armed forces in state politics. ...
