Youth spend a large proportion of their waking hours in school settings. Trans youths’ experiences in school settings remain largely underrepresented in the extant literature. Notably, many of the educational studies that include trans youth do so by grouping them with youth who identify as sexual minorities (who are in turn referred to as LGBTQ). This entry specifically delineates which studies have focused specifically on the experiences of trans youth, compared with studies that describe LGBTQ youth as a homogeneous group.
