Health Care Training

Health care training encompasses the programs, curricula, and tools that are used to build competency in health care professionals. The lack of education of care providers is often cited as a barrier to competent and welcoming trans health. As such, it is important to understand the history and development of trans health education and to conceptualize the key components of trans health education. Trans health is practiced by a variety of clinicians, including primary care (e.g., internal and family medicine) and subspecialists (e.g., endocrinology, gynecology, and surgery), as well as adult and pediatric clinicians.
