EcoWellness is a sense of appreciation, respect for, and awe of nature, resulting in feelings of connectedness with the natural environment and holistic wellness. EcoWellness theory includes seven empirically determined dimensions, which provide a foundation for the intentional application of nature in counseling, called EcoWellness counseling. Nature is conceptualized in Eco-Wellness as a positive, direct or indirect, and purposeful engagement with a nonhuman entity. Such definitions might include positive interactions with a domesticated animal, watching a sunset on a beach, and indirectly experiencing nature via a mindfulness meditation where the participant visualizes his or her favorite natural landscape.
