WikiLeaks is a nonprofit organization that publishes sensitive documents, photos, and video about government and businesses. Founded by Julian Assange in 2006 and run by a small, secretive core group, WikiLeaks has put out for public consumption vast tranches of documents from countries throughout the world. These documents, sourced from official archives and databases and leaked to the organization by inside sources or those who gained access to the material, have been released in collaboration with major newspapers and magazines such as Der Spiegel (Germany), The New York Times (the United States), The Guardian (the United Kingdom), and The Hindu (India).
