Uniform Resource Locator

A Uniform Resource Locator (URL) is a short string of formatted characters that specifies a global, standardized address on the Internet. Its universality ensures that the address is the same the world over. Sometimes informally called a web address, the URL is the most common member of a broader group of Uniform Resource Identifiers, a generic term for character strings used to identify particular resources (e.g., webpages, electronic mailboxes, documents, downloadable files).
