Identity Theft
Identity theft, a type of crime increasing quickly throughout the world, involves the nonconsensual, unlawful use of another person’s name or likeness. As the world becomes more reliant on virtual record keeping, the risks of being a victim of identity theft increase. The advent of the Internet has added to the growing numbers of identity theft cases. As society becomes more technologically dependent, transferring job applications, medical records, tax information, and other documents with personally identifying information to online platforms, new types of identity theft are provided the opportunity to form.
