Electronic Frontier Foundation

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is an American nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting freedom of speech on the Internet. It is involved in numerous lawsuits to protect individuals and technologies (e.g., Tor) from what it perceives to be government intrusion. It agitates for online civil liberties, maintains a website (eff.org) with an associated blog called DeepLinks, opposes censorship, files amicus briefs in court, protects the rights of bloggers, promotes encryption software, combats threats to civil liberties from law enforcement organizations, challenges legislation that forces companies to spy on customers, argues against patents that it believes threaten freedom of expression on the web, publishes books and online material, and occasionally develops software and browser add-ons.
