YouTube is a market-dominating, large-scale video-sharing website founded by Steven Chen, Chad Hurley, and Jawed Karim and is headquartered at San Bruno, California. The domain name http://www.youtube.com was activated on February 14, 2005, and just over 2 months later, Karim uploaded its first video, filmed at the San Diego Zoo and titled “Me at the Zoo.” In November 2006, Google acquired YouTube for $1.65 billion and has since operated it as a subsidiary.
