Hunger Games, The

The Hunger Games is the first in a series of four films based on the literary trilogy of the same name by author Suzanne Collins. The narrative of the film, which was released by Lionsgate in 2012, is set 74 years after civil war has ravaged what was once North America, now known as Panem. This future dystopia presents an unequal surveillance society in which 12 impoverished satellite districts labor to support the luxurious living standards of the Capitol. To maintain a fragile state of peace, a perpetual state of “cold war” is practiced, in which each district must offer up one male and one female child as tributes in a televised pageant known as the Hunger Games.
