UN Peacekeeping and Security Forces

Since its formation in 1948, the United Nations has played a significant role on the global stage by promoting international peace and cooperation. One of the organization’s most visible contributions to global peace and security is the deployment of UN personnel to conflict zones. Peacekeeping missions are undertaken by a multinational force that operates under the auspices of the United Nations. Traditionally, the United Nations will deploy these forces to conflict zones only at the invitation of the belligerents; peacekeepers act as impartial and neutral forces, and aim to maintain an existing peace agreement, rather than impose one on the parties.
