The burgeoning field of surveillance studies takes an interdisciplinary and global approach to the multiplicity of practices, processes, and purposes by which personal information is collected and classified. Although “watching” has taken place in human societies for eons, the advent of digitalized technology greatly expands the capacity for scrutiny and, potentially, for manipulation of entire populations. Surveillance & Society is an electronic journal that publishes and archives peer-reviewed articles, opinion, reviews, and art drawing from disciplines including sociology, urban studies, business, communication studies, history, English, criminology, law, geography, and critical studies.
