Wyoming does not specifically support research on human embryonic stem cells or therapeutic cloning. Nor does it ban either of those stem cell research methods. The state has, however, placed a ban on the sale or donation of embryos, which has meant that researchers are limiting stem cell research endeavors to animals and animal models. The largest research institution (13,000 students) within the state is the University of Wyoming (UW), which is located in Laramie in the mountains of southeastern Wyoming. At UW, stem cell research is generally concentrated within the Molecular and Life Sciences Program and the School of Pharmacy.
