Stem cells are the body’s raw materials; they have the ability to develop into different types of cells in the body throughout life. Stem cells divide into another stem cell or give rise to specialized cells. Stem cells function to divide and replace aged and damaged tissues. Stem cells cultured under specialized conditions in the lab provide an opportunity to study their use for the treatment of many diseases.

Pancreatic cancer develops from cells in the pancreas, a glandular organ located behind the stomach.
