Somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) pertains to a mammalian reproductive procedure that involves the introduction of a nucleus into an enucleated donor oocyte. The first attempt to perform SCNT was conducted in 1997; this experiment resulted in a cloned sheep named Dolly using adult somatic cells. Since then, extensive research studies have been conducted in somatic cell cloning, focusing on epigenetic modifications that would enhance specific genetic processes within the developing embryo.
