The Kingdom of Norway is a constitutional monarchy in Scandinavia, consisting of the western portion of the Scandinavian Peninsula and some of the most northern parts of the region, including the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard. Along with Denmark, Finland, Iceland, and Sweden, it is considered one of the Nordic countries, a group of countries with common cultural, geographic, ethnic, and historical ties, though they are not a formal political union. (All except Iceland and Denmark’s autonomous region of Greenland are part of the European Union.)
