Northwestern University, which was established in 1851, is located in Evanston, Illinois, just north of Chicago. A smaller campus is located in Chicago, the site of Northwestern’s Feinberg School of Medicine. A third campus was established in Doha, Qatar, in 2008. A private institution, Northwestern encompasses 12 schools and colleges and is home to the world-renowned Feinberg School of Medicine. The fact that Chicago is a major industrial and technology center means that a wide range of resources are available to Northwestern researchers.

Other schools in the area include the University of Chicago, the University of Illinois at Chicago, DePaul University, Loyola University, Robert Morris University, and the Illinois Institute of Technology.
