There are more than 250 colleges and universities located within the state of New York, and 122 of them are in New York City. More than 40 New York institutions are considered major biomedical institutions. This ready pool of research talent has been significantly expanded by the fact that New York stem cell research activity is strengthened by creating an environment that attracts some of the best scientific minds from around the world. More than 1,000 scientists in the academic and private sectors are engaged in stem cell research in New York.
