Stem cells, with their ability to develop into almost any tissue, hold a great deal of promise to treat disease. As the world becomes more globalized, many research institutions see the benefits of not only teaming with organizations in their own countries but also from others—a strategy that could generate new ideas, streamline research practices, and accelerate the production of new drugs and therapies derived from stem cell research.

The UK–China Stem Cell Partnership Initiative is not the first partnership between the United Kingdom (UK) and China.
